Beitou restaurant fire suspected gas explosion causes property damage

A suspected gas explosion and fire occurred late on the night of August 28 at a restaurant, identified as Lin Family Pork Ribs, located on Zhongyang North Road in the Beitou District of Taipei.

Emergency services responded to the scene around 10:39 PM. The fire, which originated in the first-floor dining area of a two-story corrugated iron building, burned an area of approximately 5 square meters, damaging kitchen equipment including range hoods and stoves. The force of the incident caused glass windows to shatter across the street and affected nearby motorcycles.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters extinguished the flames by approximately 11:00 PM and conducted ventilation operations to reduce gas and carbon monoxide concentrations. While preliminary reports suggest a potential gas leak may have triggered the explosion, the Taipei City Fire Department's fire investigation division is conducting a formal inquiry to confirm the exact cause.
