Beja municipality raises investment contracts and funds €2.1 million water network upgrade

The Câmara Municipal de Beja signed new Investment Contracts with the municipality’s 31 parishes and parish unions, allocating a total of €453,000. This represents a 51 % increase over the previous year and aims to provide funds for vehicles, machinery, equipment and small local works, strengthening the capacity of local authorities.

Separately, the Empresa Municipal de Água e Saneamento (EMAS) of Beja announced an investment of more than €2.1 million to modernise the water‑distribution network. The project will replace ageing fibre‑cement pipes with high‑density polyethylene, create new pressure zones, and add a second water supply line to Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes. It will serve roughly 21,000 residents across several localities and is co‑financed by the European Regional Development Fund with about €1.6 million.

Both initiatives are part of the municipality’s broader strategy to improve local services, enhance infrastructure resilience and promote sustainable resource management.
