Beja Vice-President Liliana Cabecinha suspends mandate
Liliana Cabecinha, the Vice-President of the Beja City Council, has suspended her mandate effective immediately. The suspension, which is set to last until January 10, 2027, was approved unanimously during a municipal executive meeting. While Cabecinha did not publicly disclose her specific reasons, she stated that the reasons are known to Council President Nuno Palma Ferro and characterized the move as a “momentary interruption” rather than a permanent departure.
João Brás da Silva, currently the Chief of Staff for Nuno Palma Ferro, will replace Cabecinha in the executive. President Palma Ferro assured that this change will not alter the political direction of the municipal government or the objectives of the “Beja Consegue” movement.
The decision has sparked political debate within the region. The Socialist Party (PS) raised questions regarding the stability and the true governing force of the municipality, referencing the coalition between Beja Consegue and the CDU. Additionally, the Chega party has called for transparency and clarification regarding what they described as a “political crisis” within the municipal executive.
