Bejaia wildfires destroy homes and livelihoods in Aït Idris
Recent wildfires across the Algerian provinces of Bejaia, Jijel, and Tizi-Ouzou have caused significant human and material loss. In the village of Aït Idris, located in the Taskriout commune approximately 60 kilometers east of Bejaia, a septuagenarian widow lost her entire home and livelihood to the flames.
The fire destroyed her residence, leaving only blackened walls and ash. All personal belongings, including furniture, clothing, photographs, and savings, were consumed. Additionally, the woman, who suffers from heart disease, lost her small livestock, which served as her primary source of subsistence.
In response to the devastation, local volunteers from Aït Idris have issued an appeal for solidarity, seeking assistance to help rebuild the destroyed home.
