Bekasi cement mixer truck accident kills six people

A cement mixer truck accident on Jalan Cut Mutia in Bekasi, West Java, resulted in six deaths and six injuries on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM when the heavy vehicle, traveling from the direction of Universitas Muhammadiyah Indonesia toward Rawa Panjang, reportedly suffered a brake failure while descending a bridge near the BSI campus.

The driver, identified as TM, attempted to steer the vehicle into a campus wall to avoid a larger catastrophe, but the truck continued forward and struck a crowd of people waiting at a bus stop. Police have named the driver a suspect, facing potential imprisonment of up to six years under traffic laws.

Investigations by the Bekasi City Metro Police and the Ministry of Transportation revealed that the vehicle had not undergone mandatory periodic inspections (KIR) for six years. Consequently, authorities plan to summon the truck's owner for clarification regarding fleet safety standards. PT Jasa Raharja has confirmed that compensation of 50 million IDR will be provided to the families of the deceased, while injured victims are eligible for medical coverage up to 20 million IDR.
