Bekasi former regent Ade Kuswara Kunang faces 7‑year prison term

Former Bekasi regent Ade Kuswara Kunang, who has been suspended from office, was charged with corruption linked to a regional development project. Prosecutors at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are seeking a seven‑year prison sentence, a fine of 300 million rupiah and restitution of 11.4 billion rupiah for Kunang. His father, HM Kunang, faces a four‑year term, a similar fine and restitution of 1 billion rupiah. The indictment also calls for a five‑year removal of Ade Kunang’s political rights. Kunang denied the allegations, describing the charge sheet as “cunning”. The case alleges that the duo received bribes from businessman Sarjan in exchange for awarding a large construction package in Bekasi.

The trial is being heard at the Bandung District Court. If the restitution payments are not made, the court may impose additional custodial sentences. The prosecution highlighted the impact on the Bekasi community and the defendants’ lack of cooperation with anti‑corruption efforts.
