Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang sentenced to six years for corruption

The Bandung Corruption Court has sentenced inactive Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang to six years in prison and a fine of Rp300 million for his involvement in a bribery scheme related to projects within the Bekasi Regency Government. The court also ordered Ade to pay Rp11.4 billion in restitution; failure to pay the remaining Rp10.4 billion could result in an additional two-year prison sentence and the seizure of assets.

In addition to the prison term, Ade’s political rights have been revoked for ten years. His father, HM Kunang, was sentenced to four years in prison and a Rp300 million fine for his role in the case. The court found that Ade received Rp11.4 billion and HM Kunang received Rp1 billion from an entrepreneur named Sarjan to facilitate project arrangements.

The judges rejected the defendants' arguments that the transactions were merely civil loans, ruling instead that they constituted criminal corruption. Ade's sentence was lighter than the seven-year term requested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors, while HM Kunang's sentence matched the prosecution's demand.
