Bekir Yıldız: A 60-year legacy of lathe craftsmanship in Erzincan
Bekir Yıldız, a 78-year-old lathe master in Erzincan, continues to practice his craft using traditional methods despite the rise of CNC machines and artificial intelligence. Having graduated from the Aydın Art Institute in 1967, Yıldız established his own workshop that same year and has maintained his profession for nearly 60 years.
Throughout his career, Yıldız has developed various machines to meet local needs in the agriculture, industry, and automotive sectors. He specifically credits himself with inventing a tulum cheese pressing machine and a honey straining machine used in the region.
In addition to his technical work, Yıldız has had a significant political career starting in 1982. He has served as a district chairman for two terms, a provincial chairman for one term, and was a parliamentary candidate in 1995. Most recently, he served as the President of the Erzincan Provincial General Assembly from 2019 to 2024 before returning to his workshop.
