BCR posts record €234 million profit in first half of 2026
Banca Comercială Română (BCR) reported a net profit of 1.205 billion lei (about €234 million) for the first six months of 2026, despite a challenging market environment. Operational profit rose 1.6% year‑on‑year to 2.116 billion lei, driven by higher operating income, while net interest income reached 2.365 billion lei, slightly below the same period in 2025. Net fees increased 15.5% to 632 million lei, reflecting stronger transaction volumes and sales of insurance and investment products.
Digital channels played a growing role, with 40% of the bank’s loan portfolio originated through the George mobile app. The cost‑income ratio held at 36.2%, and administrative expenses grew 6% year‑on‑year to 1.199 billion lei, mainly due to inflation, higher VAT and currency depreciation. CEO Sergiu Manea highlighted continued focus on responsible lending, financial education and diversification of revenue streams.
