BJP leader Ravi Patil granted bail in Karnataka voter deletion case
A court in Belagavi, Karnataka, has granted anticipatory bail to BJP leader Dr. Ravi Patil in connection with allegations of fraudulent voter deletion. The case involves claims that approximately 198 Muslim voters were targeted for removal from electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process using fabricated Form 7 applications.
An FIR was registered at the Market Police Station against Patil and approximately 20–25 others following a complaint by a Booth Level Officer (BLO). The charges include the use of fake documents, providing false information, and attempts to disrupt law and order under various sections of the BNS Act. The incident is linked to activities at polling booths 195 and 196 in Veerabhadranagar on September 22.
In granting bail, the 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court observed that the submission of Form 7 does not automatically result in the deletion of a voter's name, as election authorities are required to conduct independent inquiries and verifications. The court noted that the authenticity of such documents is a matter for election authorities to dispute through their own investigative processes.
