Belarus conducts military exercises near EU borders

Belarus conducted military exercises in the western part of the country near the borders of Poland and Lithuania, the European Union's frontier. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense described the maneuvers, which took place from Tuesday to Friday, as being of a “strictly defensive nature.”

The primary objectives of the exercises were to strengthen the ability of military troops to protect the state's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Specific training scenarios included border defense, the destruction of sabotage groups, and anti-drone operations. The Ministry stated that units operated across a wide front to successfully complete assigned tasks in a complex and changing environment.

While the exact number of participating soldiers was not disclosed, Belarus regularly conducts at least two major military exercises annually, often involving allies such as Russia. This follows large-scale maneuvers like Zapad-2025, which involved nearly 100,000 personnel.
