Belarus expands military railway infrastructure near Ukraine border

Belarus is expanding military infrastructure near the Ukrainian border, according to documentation from the Belarusian Railway Community. Reports indicate the construction of new railway tracks and a loading platform designed for wheeled and tracked vehicles near the Homel region.

While officially designated as a waste disposal site in the Homel oblast, the site includes a new access track capable of handling up to 60 wagons and a ramp for heavy equipment. The construction is reportedly located near the village of Jakimówka, approximately 60 km from the Ukrainian border.

This development coincides with the ongoing construction of a military base near Homel, which is expected to house the 37th Independent Air Assault Brigade of the Belarusian special forces. This brigade was established by Alexander Lukashenko in 2025, with official justifications citing protection against threats from Ukraine.
