Poland investigates Belarus warning of possible terrorist attack
Belarus’s foreign ministry alerted Polish authorities to a suspected terrorist plot on Polish soil. The notice, delivered during a meeting with Poland’s chargé d’affaires Krzysztof Ożanna in Minsk, said a person currently residing in Poland – previously convicted in Belarus and whose additional protection and residence permit were recently revoked by Polish officials – is allegedly planning an attack. The stated target is the under‑age children of a Belarusian activist living in Poland, with motive reported as revenge for the activist’s alleged failure to secure the suspect’s legal status. Belarus said it is prepared to share further information with Warsaw if needed.
Poland’s foreign minister Radosław Sikorski confirmed the warning is being treated seriously, stating, “We take every warning about terrorism seriously and verify it.” Special‑services coordinator Jacek Dobrzyński added that Polish services “never downplay any worrying signal” and handle all threat information with due seriousness and firmness. The Polish security services are currently reviewing the intelligence.
