Belavia receives US authorization for Boeing support and direct flight plans
Belarusian state airline Belavia has reportedly received authorization from the United States Department of Commerce to resume direct access to Boeing support. This development follows the easing of US sanctions that had previously restricted the airline’s ability to obtain essential parts, components, and software for its Boeing 737 fleet.
Belavia CEO Igor Cherginets stated that the license enables the direct purchase of replacement parts and software necessary for existing aircraft. The authorization also allows the airline to enter negotiations with Boeing regarding the potential purchase of new aircraft. While the US Department of Commerce and Boeing have not publicly released the specific terms of the license, individual export authorizations are not always published by US authorities.
In addition to technical support, Belarusian aviation officials are revisiting plans to launch direct flights between Belarus and the United States. Igor Golub, head of the Belarusian Aviation Department, confirmed that options for air connectivity are being evaluated, though no specific schedule or flight routes have been finalized. These discussions follow a period of increased isolation for the airline after sanctions were imposed in 2023.
