Belfast police arrest two following dangerous e-bike pursuit

Two individuals, a 17-year-old male and a 20-year-old man, have been arrested following a dangerous e-bike pursuit in West Belfast. The incident began around 8:45 PM on Saturday when police responded to three Surron-style electric bikes being driven at high speeds.

After officers deployed a stinger device on all three bikes, one rider abandoned their vehicle. The remaining two riders continued toward Belfast city centre and onto the Westlink dual carriageway. During the pursuit, one rider fell from their bike and was picked up as a passenger by the other, resulting in both traveling against the flow of traffic on a single vehicle.

Police eventually stopped the e-bike safely, though the Westlink required temporary closure to allow emergency services to complete collision procedures. The 20-year-old faces multiple charges, including causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, carrying an unauthorized passenger, failing to stop for police, and driving without insurance. Both suspects remain in police custody following precautionary hospital assessments.
