Belfort police commander assaulted during school protests

A police commander in Belfort was violently assaulted by several individuals during protests near a high school. The officer was knocked to the ground and struck repeatedly in the head with fists and feet. Two minors have been taken into custody, one of whom admitted to participating in the assault.

The incident has led to conflicting legal claims. While the officer was attacked, one of the suspects has filed a complaint against the commander for attempted murder, alleging the officer attempted to drown him during the arrest.

The prosecutor of Belfort has addressed these allegations, dismissing claims of a drowning attempt as misinformation. The prosecutor noted that the riverbed where the struggle occurred is extremely shallow, stating that the deepest point is only 19 centimeters, which is ‘less than an A4 sheet’ in depth.
