Belgian champion Rune Herregodts to leave UAE Team Emirates

Rune Herregodts, the 28‑year‑old Belgian road race champion, confirmed that he will depart UAE Team Emirates after winning the national title in June 2024. He has not signed a new contract yet, but several WorldTour teams – including Lotto Intermarché, Alpecin Premier Tech and Cofidis – have shown interest.

Herregodts said he wants to ride more for himself and hopes a new environment will bring more personal victories. He is expected to race the Tour de Pologne in September, while a Vuelta a España start with the UAE squad looks unlikely.

The rider praised his two years with the Pogacar‑led team but indicated that a change is needed to pursue his ambitions.
