Belgian Child Severely Injured in Austrian Traffic Accident
On Monday evening at about 20:50, a seven‑year‑old Belgian boy and his 13‑year‑old brother were crossing the Reuttener Straße (B187) in Lermoos, Tyrol, to reach a restaurant opposite a parking area. A 63‑year‑old German driver, traveling on the Ehrwalder Straße, was unable to avoid the pedestrians and struck the younger child frontally. The boy was thrown into the air, suffered severe injuries and received immediate first‑aid from witnesses, including his parents.
He was subsequently evacuated by the rescue helicopter RK 2 and flown to the Landeskrankenhaus Innsbruck for further treatment. The older brother escaped injury, and the driver and his son, who were in the vehicle, were unharmed. The road was closed for roughly one and a half hours while police investigated the circumstances of the crash.
