Belgian coaches Vrancken and Reedijk face off in Scottish cup derby

Wouter Vrancken and Marink Reedijk, both former coaches in Belgian football, will face each other in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on November 1. The match features Hearts, led by Vrancken, against Hibernian, managed by Reedijk.

The rivalry carries personal weight following a recruitment process at Hearts. According to The Scotsman, Hearts utilized Jamestown Analytics for data-driven coaching assessments. While Reedijk’s work at SK Beveren was considered, he was not selected for the position. Hearts ultimately appointed Vrancken, while Reedijk subsequently joined Hibernian.

The two managers currently face contrasting fortunes in the league. Vrancken has guided Hearts to third place, whereas Reedijk’s Hibernian sits at the bottom of the standings, with the manager still seeking his first victory after four matches. The derby also features a reunion between Reedijk and former Beveren goalkeeper Beau Reus, who currently plays for Hearts.
