Belgian football: Genk extends Kongolo's contract and Anderlecht's Stroeykens faces scrutiny
KRC Genk has extended the contract of central defender Josue Kongolo until the summer of 2030. The twenty-year-old, who was originally under contract until 2028, chose to remain with the club despite interest from foreign teams. Kongolo, a product of Genk's youth academy, recently qualified for the 2027 U21 European Championship with the Belgian national team.
At RSC Anderlecht, analyst Marc Degryse has urged the club to reinvest confidence in midfielder Mario Stroeykens. Despite previous criticism from sporting director Antoine Sibierski and development setbacks due to injuries, the 22-year-old has recently seen increased playing time, including an impactful appearance against Cercle Brugge.
