Belgian football transfers: Makaté joins Lierse and Mbaku nears Berchem move
Lierse SK has strengthened its squad by signing 23-year-old striker Cristian Makaté from Union SG. Makaté, who holds Spanish nationality and represents Equatorial Guinea internationally, has signed a two-season contract with an option for an additional year.
During his time with Union SG, Makaté was highly productive in the Eerste Nationale division, scoring 53 goals in 82 matches. He also made professional appearances for Union's first team in the Challenger Pro League and the Croky Cup, and was included in Champions League squads. He previously spent time on loan at RAAL La Louvière in the Jupiler Pro League.
In separate transfer news, 18-year-old striker Junior Mbaku is nearing a move from Patro Eisden Maasmechelen to Berchem Sport. The deal is expected to be a one-year loan intended to provide the young attacker with more playing time. Mbaku, who is under contract with Patro Eisden until 2027, has primarily played for their U21 side but has trained with the senior squad.
