Belgian goalkeepers make impact in Spanish football

Belgian goalkeepers are making significant impacts in Spanish football. Romain Matthys has emerged as a key player for CD Castellón in the Segunda División. Since moving from MVV Maastricht in 2025, Matthys has maintained an 88.2 percent save rate, including five clean sheets in the first seven matches of the season.

At the top level, Real Madrid is working on a long-term succession plan for Thibaut Courtois. While the club aims to extend the 34-year-old's current contract, they are simultaneously preparing for his eventual departure by identifying potential successors to the world-class goalkeeper.
