Belgian man loses 10,000 euros to Céline Dion impersonation scam
A Belgian man has fallen victim to a sophisticated romance scam involving the impersonation of singer Céline Dion. The victim reportedly lost over 10,000 euros by purchasing gift cards to fund the perceived needs of the star.
According to reports, the scammers used a narrative claiming the singer was isolated and facing financial difficulties because her management team controlled her accounts. To avoid bank detection, the perpetrators requested payments via gift cards. The deception reached a peak during New Year's 2025, when the victim waited for a private jet and taxi that never arrived, having already paid significant sums for the supposed travel arrangements.
The victim's daughter shared the story via the Flemish broadcaster VRT, noting that her father remains in denial about the situation.
