Belgian motocross riders face medical setbacks

Belgian motocross riders Nicolas Vennekens and Lucas Coenen are facing significant medical setbacks that are impacting their competitive seasons.

Nicolas Vennekens has announced that his season is officially over due to severe fatigue caused by an internal inflammation. Medical examinations revealed an inflammation at the junction of his small and large intestine, which has allowed bacteria to enter his body and caused extreme exhaustion. He has begun an intensive two-week treatment program involving medication via injections to facilitate a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star Lucas Coenen will miss the MXGP of Sweden in Uddevalla. Coenen is continuing rehabilitation for a left hip injury and associated sciatic nerve damage. Despite making progress, the 19-year-old and his team decided that returning to racing this weekend would risk further complications or setbacks. His return to the premier class will be assessed on a day-by-day basis following continued treatment.
