Belgian municipalities illuminate landmarks in pink for breast cancer awareness

More than 80 Belgian municipalities, including Dessel, are participating in the ‘Pink Illumination’ campaign to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Month on September 30. As part of this initiative led by the nonprofit Pink Ribbon, various town halls, public buildings, and iconic monuments will be illuminated in pink.

The campaign aims to raise awareness regarding the importance of prevention, early detection, and support for patients and their families. In Belgium, the nonprofit notes that one in eight women will be affected by breast cancer during her lifetime, while approximately one in 1,000 men will receive a diagnosis. In Dessel, the local government will light up the water curtain at Campinaplein for at least 14 days to show solidarity with those impacted by the disease.
