Belgian railway stations receive new large-scale mural art

Several Belgian railway stations are undergoing artistic transformations through large-scale mural projects.

At the Duinbergen station in Knokke-Heist, artist Guillaume Gombault is creating a mural titled ‘Tide Shift’ within the pedestrian tunnel. The artwork depicts a transition from urban structures to coastal landscapes, including dunes, beaches, and sea elements such as sailboats and parasols. While the official inauguration is scheduled for November, the piece is currently visible to commuters.

In Sint-Truiden, the NMBS (National Railway Company of Belgium) is collaborating with Treepack to install a 250-square-meter mural in the station's underpass. The design focuses on the identity of the Haspengouw region, featuring fruit trees evolving from blossom to ripe fruit, local landmarks like the Abbey Tower, and references to local sports and biodiversity. The project aims to create a more welcoming environment for travelers and will be protected by an anti-graffiti coating upon completion.
