Belgium allocates funds for energy relief and hospital renovation

The Belgian government has announced a 15 million euro package to assist vulnerable families facing rising heating costs. Federal Energy Minister Mathieu Bihet stated that the funds will bolster the Heating Social Fund for the winter period between December 1, 2026, and February 28, 2027. The subsidy structure is designed to be dynamic, potentially increasing from 0.20 euros to 0.50 euros per liter of heating oil if market prices reach or exceed 1.775 euros per liter.

In a separate development, the Walloon government has approved an additional 20 million euros for the energy renovation of the CHR de la Citadelle hospital. This brings the total project budget to 55 million euros, co-financed by Wallonia, the European Union, and the City of Liège. The renovation includes roof insulation, facade work, and the installation of photovoltaic panels. The project aims to reduce heating needs by approximately 25% and decrease CO2 emissions by over 17%.
