France and Belgium approach final 2026 income tax filing deadlines

In France, the 2026 income‑tax filing window closes for the remaining 46 departments (numbers 55 to 976, including overseas territories) at 23:59 on Thursday 4 June 2026. Taxpayers must file online via impots.gouv.fr; late submissions risk a 10 % penalty. After validation, the tax administration will calculate refunds, typically issued on 24 or 31 July 2026, or issue checks for those without bank details. Households with higher 2025 earnings may need to make additional payments by early September or in monthly installments.

In Belgium, the 2026 fiscal year is well underway, with about 648 510 tax returns already lodged. Paper returns must reach the Federal Public Service of Finance by 30 June, while electronic filings via MyMinfin are due by 15 July (with an extended deadline of 16 October for certain income types). Early filing speeds up the issuance of tax notices, which will be sent from August 2026 to June 2027, and allows taxpayers to correct errors up to the electronic deadline.

Both countries emphasize that early or on‑time filing reduces processing delays and ensures taxpayers receive any refunds or payment notices promptly.
