Adnane Abid attracts interest from Morocco and Belgium

Standard Liege forward Adnane Abid is the subject of a recruitment competition between the Moroccan and Belgian national football teams. The 23-year-old attacker has seen a significant rise in form and market value following his performances in the Belgian league.

Morocco has taken a concrete step by including Abid in a preliminary squad list prepared by coach Mohamed Ouahbi for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Although Abid previously represented Belgium at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels, he has expressed interest in playing for Morocco, the country of his parents' origin.

In response, the Belgian Football Association has intervened. Technical manager Simon Mignolet has reportedly contacted the player to gauge his interest in representing the Belgian national team, aiming to avoid losing talent to Morocco as has happened with players like Ryan Bouneda and Bilal El Khannouss. Abid has not yet made a final decision regarding his international future.
