Belgium authorities investigate Go Church following allegations of manipulation

Police in Bruges are investigating whether an organization operating out of the De Xaverianen community center is affiliated with Go Church, a controversial youth church. The city of Bruges has stated it will immediately terminate rental agreements if clear links to the organization are established.

This investigation follows undercover reports and testimonies from former members alleging psychological manipulation, intense group pressure, and financial exploitation. Former followers have described a culture where youth are pressured to donate significant amounts of money via digital methods and are instructed by leaders, known as ‘shepherds’, to sever ties with non-believing friends and family members.

Several Flemish cities and institutions have already taken action. In Ghent, the city has ceased renting buildings to the church, and a local school has terminated its rental agreement. Other landlords across Flanders have also ended their partnerships with the group this week, while a decision regarding the church's main location in Merksem is expected next week.
