Belgium national team announces Nations League squad without Courtois

Belgium national team coach Mark van Bommel has announced his squad for the Nations League, notably excluding goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Courtois has decided to take a break from international duty to focus on Real Madrid, though he expressed interest in continuing his club career until 2031 or 2032. He remains undecided about a future coaching career despite holding UEFA A and B licenses.

To fill the void in goal, Van Bommel has selected Senne Lammens, Mike Penders, Maarten Vandevoordt, and Jari De Busser. Lammens is considered a likely candidate for the starting position. The squad also features Romelu Lukaku, though some analysts have noted his recent form in Turkey. Other key selections include Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans, and Loïs Openda.

Additionally, coach Van Bommel highlighted the potential of young midfielder Kamiel Van De Perre, noting that while he was not selected for this immediate squad, he is being closely monitored for future call-ups due to his physical presence and development at Union.
