Belgium conducts searches at residences of Félix Tshisekedi's relatives

Belgian authorities conducted large-scale searches on Wednesday, October 14, at several properties in Brussels, Flemish Brabant, and Walloon Brabant. The operations targeted the residences of close family members and associates of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi.

The Belgian federal prosecutor's office confirmed the searches are part of a judicial investigation into alleged money laundering. The case stems from complaints filed by Congolese non-governmental organizations in July 2025. Legal representatives, including lawyer Bernard Maingain, stated that the investigation involves the alleged misappropriation of mining revenues from the Katanga region.

According to legal filings, several individuals targeted in the probe hold Belgian citizenship, which provides the jurisdictional basis for the investigation in Belgium. The allegations include corruption, embezzlement, and financial crimes related to the exploitation of mineral resources that were purportedly intended for the Congolese state and local communities. While the searches involved dozens of police officers, authorities have not yet disclosed specific details regarding seized assets or the identities of all individuals involved.
