Belgium defeats New Zealand 5-1 to win Group G at the 2026 World Cup

Belgium secured the top spot in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by beating New Zealand 5‑1 at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. The goals came from Leandro Trossard (two), Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Saelemakers, while New Zealand’s sole scorer was Elijah Just. The match was officiated by Jordan Makhadmeh.

Egypt’s 1‑1 draw with Iran in the group’s other game ensured Belgium finished first. Belgium’s next group‑stage fixture is scheduled for Wednesday against a third‑placed team, and a possible round‑of‑16 opponent could be the United States or Bosnia‑Herzegovina.

The victory gives Belgium a strong start in the tournament co‑hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and leaves New Zealand needing a win in its final group match to stay in contention.
