Belgium defeats Senegal 3-2 in World Cup round of 16

Belgium overcame a two‑goal deficit to beat Senegal 3‑2 after extra time in the round of 16 at the World Cup, securing a place in the quarter‑finals. The match took place at Seattle’s stadium in the United States. Senegal led 2‑0 early in the second half, but Romelu Lukaku reduced the gap before Yuri Tielemans equalised late in regulation. In extra time the referee awarded a penalty after a VAR review; Tielemans converted to give Belgium the decisive goal.

Belgium will now meet the winner of the United States‑Bosnia and Herzegovina fixture in the next round.
