Belgium defeats Spain in Women's Volleyball European Championship opener

The Spanish women's national volleyball team suffered a defeat against Belgium in their opening match of the 2026 European Championship. The match, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, ended with a score of 3-2 in favor of Belgium (25-15, 18-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-8).

Led by coach Pascual Saurín, Spain initially struggled as Belgium established an early lead in the first set. Although Spain managed to win the second and third sets to briefly take control of the match, Belgium regained momentum in the fourth set to secure the victory.

Competing in Group C, Spain's loss marks a difficult start to the tournament. Their upcoming schedule includes matches against Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania.
