Belgium experiences brief cooling after heat wave, but another hot spell looms

Temperatures in Belgium have fallen back toward seasonal norms after several days of intense heat, offering a short‑lived reprieve for residents. Meteorologists warn that the current anticyclone could re‑anchor over France or western Europe, bringing hot air from the Sahara and Spain. As Frédéric Decker of MeteoNews explained, “De l’air va remonter du Sahara et de l’Espagne, qui devrait surtout concerner une nouvelle fois la France, mais qui devrait aussi déborder sur le Benelux.”

Models predict a possible new heat dome as early as next week, a phenomenon that has become more frequent in recent years. “C’est vrai que ces dernières années, on le constate un petit peu plus souvent…”, Decker noted, linking the trend to climate warming.

In the meantime, households are advised to ventilate homes during cool evenings, close shutters during sunny periods, and limit internal heat sources to reduce lingering indoor warmth caused by thermal inertia of walls, floors and furniture.
