Belgium football faces Spain in World Cup as new national training complex opens

The Belgian national team, buoyed by a 3‑2 victory over Senegal, prepares to meet Spain in the World Cup knockout stage. Coach Robert Martínez, who led Belgium to the 2018 semi‑finals, stresses the importance of the upcoming match.

At the same time, Belgium has opened a €20 million football centre in Tubize, a location chosen for its neutrality between the Flemish and Walloon regions. The complex, funded with surplus World Cup resources, consolidates all national‑team departments under one roof, providing multiple pitches, a hotel, restaurant, administrative offices and an auditorium. Martínez supervised its design to foster cohesion among all age groups, from under‑15s to the senior squad, aiming to sustain Belgium’s recent football success.

The new facility reflects the country’s multilingual character and its ambition to turn the 2018 “golden generation” into a lasting legacy while the team heads into its decisive match against Spain.
