Belgium: Memorial held for accident victims and charity support for fire victims

In Aalst, Belgium, family and community members gathered to commemorate the eleventh anniversary of the tragic death of Johanna and her daughter Axelle. The mother and child lost their lives eleven years ago in a severe traffic accident on Kwalestraat caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol and drugs. During the memorial, a minute of silence was observed at 11:55 AM, the exact time of the original accident.

Mayor Christoph D’Haese expressed support for the family’s ongoing advocacy for increased road safety and stricter penalties for impaired driving. He highlighted the importance of legislative changes, such as the introduction of the ‘traffic homicide’ offense, to hold negligent drivers more accountable.

In Idegem, the charity Hope for Children provided essential supplies to a family affected by a severe house fire on Ninoofsestraat. The support, which included items for 11-month-old Aurora, was presented by new organization ambassadors Aurélie and singer John Dennis. Hope for Children has assisted 28 children since its founding in 2014.
