Kevin De Bruyne denies Napoli exit rumors and confirms Belgium return

Kevin De Bruyne Napoli Belgium national team Serie A UEFA Nations League

Kevin De Bruyne has addressed recent speculation regarding his future at Napoli and his international career with Belgium. The 35-year-old midfielder categorically denied rumors that he attempted to force a transfer from the Italian club during the summer window, stating, “No, I haven’t really spoken to anyone about it. I just enjoyed my holidays and went straight back to Naples.”

De Bruyne acknowledged a difficult start to the 2026/27 Serie A season for Napoli, who have secured only seven points from five matches. He noted that small details have separated the team from a more successful points tally. While some reports suggested tension between De Bruyne and management, including former coach Antonio Conte and current manager Massimiliano Allegri, the player emphasized his commitment to the club.

Regarding his international future, De Bruyne confirmed he will continue to play for the Belgian national team under new coach Mark van Bommel. He expressed a desire to help transition responsibilities to younger players, noting that many teammates encouraged him to stay. He indicated that while he may see his role evolve or his playing time decrease, he remains physically and mentally motivated to compete, potentially through Euro 2028.
