Belgium records over 8 million speeding fines in a year

Belgian police reported that more than 8.24 million speeding tickets were issued in the past twelve months, the bulk for marginal exceedances of less than 10 km/h. In a related case, a 74‑year‑old driver in Sint‑Martens‑Latem was caught by a radar at 102 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. He told the court he was rushing home because of a sudden diarrhoea episode. The judge imposed a €480 fine and a 21‑day suspension of his driving licence, noting the driver’s history of previous traffic offences.
