Belgium tax reforms trigger Antwerp assistance as owners face higher bills

The city of Antwerp, in partnership with the Federal Public Service Finance, has organized 25 tax‑filing help sessions for vulnerable residents. The initiative, now in its fifth year, allows only Antwerp citizens referred by social centres to attend, with more than 1,600 people expected to receive assistance in completing paper or online tax returns before the filing deadlines.

At the national level, the Belgian government has abolished the mortgage‑interest deduction for non‑owner‑occupied properties. The change affects roughly 500,000 property owners and will raise their tax bills by an average of €614 for those in the 40% bracket and €767 for the highest bracket, with no transitional arrangements. The measure applies retroactively to the 2025 income year and is intended to boost state revenues.
