Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Belgium has agreed to transfer three F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2024 through an accelerated procedure. This delivery is part of a broader effort to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities amid intensifying Russian strikes. Zelensky also confirmed that Ukraine has received urgent ammunition for F-16s from Belgium and Spain.

In addition to aircraft, Ukraine has received a new shipment of missiles for the NASAMS air defense system, provided by the United States and Norway. Discussions are ongoing to secure more Patriot missile supplies to counter Russian ballistic missiles. To combat new threats, Ukraine is developing prototypes of an interception system specifically designed to down high-speed, jet-powered Shahed drones.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Anatoliy Kryvonozhko reported significant combat milestones for the F-16 fleet, noting that pilots have intercepted over 3,150 Russian aerial targets, including 666 cruise missiles and approximately 2,500 UAVs. Furthermore, F-16 crews have conducted more than 650 precision strikes against ground targets in contested zones. Military officials have also held consultations with Lockheed Martin regarding future fleet modernization, specifically the potential transition to advanced F-16 Block 70/72 Viper models.
