Belgium to introduce digital road vignette in 2027
Belgium is set to introduce a digital road vignette starting May 1, 2027, which will apply to all vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes on regional roads and motorways. The vignette will be linked to license plates, with options for physical purchase at service stations for those unable to use digital methods.
Pricing for the vignette varies by vehicle type and duration. Annual costs are projected at €100 for modern petrol or diesel cars and €90 for electric vehicles, while older vehicles may face costs up to €125. Short-term options are also available, ranging from one-day to two-month periods.
The Dutch travelers' organization ANWB has officially expressed opposition to the plan, intending to lodge complaints with the Belgian government and the European Commission. The ANWB cites concerns regarding the high costs for motorists and questions whether the revenue will be effectively used to improve Belgian road infrastructure.
