Belgium to propose solutions for Brussels Airport noise nuisances

The Belgian federal government is facing mounting pressure to address noise pollution caused by flight paths at Brussels Airport. Mobility Minister Jean-Luc Crucke has stated that the government intends to present “concrete proposals” by October 1 to mitigate these nuisances.

The deadline follows a previous court ruling in February 2025, where a Brussels court ordered the state to implement measures to comply with local noise regulations regarding night flights.

In a separate legal action, approximately 40 families from Flemish Brabant, represented by the citizen collective Bruegelvogelvrij, are suing the Belgian state. The group is protesting the use of a specific GPS-guided flight route, often referred to as the “Crucke route,” which causes significant noise disruption during easterly and northeasterly winds. The residents are demanding the immediate suspension of the RNP 087L route until a broad agreement on flight paths is reached. While the legal proceedings have been initiated, the first hearing is not currently scheduled until February 2027.
