Belgium updates mileage allowances and reports company car stagnation
Belgium is seeing shifts in professional vehicle reimbursements and company car trends. Starting October 1, 2026, the kilometer allowance for employees using personal vehicles for business will increase to €0.4452 per kilometer for those under the quarterly indexation system. This represents a minor increase of approximately 0.27 percent compared to the previous quarter.
Simultaneously, data from the FPS Mobility and Transport indicates that the number of company cars in Belgium has reached 629,156, showing a stagnation of only 0.2% growth over the past year. Approximately 15% of Belgian employees now have access to a company car. While the Planning Bureau has suggested reducing or eliminating tax benefits for company cars and fuel cards as a potential cost-saving measure for the federal budget, the issue remains a polarizing topic in Belgian politics.
