Health officials in Belgium reminded the public that consuming alcohol during a heatwave can increase dehydration and impair judgement. Earlier warnings suggested avoiding alcohol altogether, and some French cities temporarily prohibited its sale because intoxicated individuals were at risk of falling into water. While sommeliers now propose cocktail recipes for warm days, they stress moderation and advise drinking water as the primary thirst quencher.
The World Health Organization also advises limiting heavy physical activity during the hottest hours of the day. Regular exercise strengthens the cardiovascular system, helping the body dissipate heat more efficiently, but intense exertion should be shifted to early mornings or late evenings. Additional recommendations include staying well‑hydrated, wearing light clothing, and seeking shade to reduce the risk of heat‑related illness.
