Belgium's Eerste Kok van België 2027 competition announced

Five chefs have been selected to compete for the prestigious title of 'Eerste Kok van België 2027' (First Chef of Belgium 2027). The finalists—Kenny Bernaerts, Diego De Baets, Matteo Forlano, Tuur Mertens, and Dimitri Proost—will face three demanding culinary challenges on November 15, 2026, at the Horeca Expo in Ghent.

The competition, organized by Club Prosper Montagné for over 70 years, emphasizes classical techniques over modern presentation. Under the ambassadorship of Johan Segers, candidates must prepare specific traditional dishes, including stuffed sole with lobster and oyster, hare with various sauces, and a contemporary version of Poire Belle Hélène.

Winning the title provides more than national recognition; the winner automatically becomes a member of the National Culinary Team Belgium, serving as a gateway for potential selection for the international Bocuse d'Or competition.
