Belgium’s surge in French tutoring and French expatriate arrivals

Private French lessons are experiencing unprecedented demand in Belgium, with the Superprof platform linking thousands of students to tutors. Superprof lists more than 26 million teachers worldwide, including a large pool active in Belgium, where rates typically range from €20 to €65 per hour.

Around 250 000–260 000 French nationals now reside in Belgium, half of them in Brussels. No visa is required, but new residents must register at their local municipality, obtain a national register number, and provide identity documents, proof of address and, if needed, a translated birth certificate. This registration enables opening bank accounts, signing leases and accessing healthcare. The French driver’s licence remains valid for several years after relocation.
