Belgrade advances tram procurement and metro construction

Belgrade is advancing major public transport infrastructure projects, including the expansion of its tram fleet and the development of a new metro system. The City Public Transport Company (GSP) has issued a tender for 85 new trams. These vehicles are specified to be 30 meters long with a minimum capacity of 200 passengers. Union leader Ivan Banković expressed concerns regarding the city's ability to secure the necessary funding for this procurement, noting that GSP faces existing debts and financial constraints.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has issued a construction permit to Beogradski metro i voz for works essential to the Belgrade metro project. This permit covers Phase I works required to prepare the site for the launch of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM). The estimated value of these works is 3.82 billion dinars, excluding VAT. Two TBM machines are currently being transported from China to Serbia via sea and river routes, with arrival and assembly expected to facilitate the excavation of approximately 11 kilometers of tunnels for the first phase of Line 1.
