Belgrade Arena faces potential 50-year private concession
The Serbian government is considering a 50-year concession for the Belgrade Arena, a move that has drawn criticism from the Novi DSS political group. The party argues that the arena is city property and should not be handed over to private partners, accusing the administration of mismanagement.
Financial reports indicate the arena has faced significant losses, with a deficit of 63 million dinars in 2024 and projected losses for 2025. Reports suggest the City of Belgrade lacks the funds for both professional management and the necessary structural reconstruction of the facility. Concerns have been raised regarding the building's condition, including the roof structure and seating.
Negotiations for the concession are reportedly underway with three potential candidates: investment funds from Dubai and Turkey, and a Greek-American concessionaire.
